Chapter One Online Reading Volunteers in Newport
We shall support 100 5- to 7-year-olds in primary schools in Newport with higher than average Pupil Development Grants. The teachers will select ten children in each class who will benefit the most from the weekly online reading lessons.
100 children and 100 volunteers
We are seeking funding to provide 100 disadvantaged children in Newport with weekly online reading sessions. We will recruit corporate and student volunteers to read online with the children in the classroom from January to December 2025. Using our bespoke, secure platform, this 1:1 support will help to transform the children’s reading confidence and ability. We shall provide training, DBS checks and ongoing support for the volunteers. A laptop and headset will be provided for each class.
Children aged 5-7 years who struggle with their reading.
