Each child in Newport living with or dying of a life-shortening condition, represents a family who could benefit from our Family Support Service; this includes the child living with the condition, their mum, dad, siblings & wider family members
Parents of life-limited children often become their children’s nurses overnight, attuned to their complex needs 24/7; they are often in an overwhelming situation, and tell us that they feel they are often their children's only unpaid carers
There are currently 34 children in Newport who are accessing Family Support Services through Tŷ Hafan. Every child referred to us is living with a life-shortening condition, and they are not expected to live beyond 18 years of age
All of the families we support are considered to be vulnerable. 51% of families referred to our service have an annual income of under £25,000. All of Tŷ Hafan's services including the Family Support Service, are free of charge, with no waiting list
This includes support for parents, siblings and grandparents
No family should have to face the unimaginable death of their child alone. Tŷ Hafan's Family Support Service allows us to be there to support families throughout a child’s short life - to be with them through the exhaustion and uncertainty of caring for a child living with a life-shortening condition when they have no one else to turn to. Tŷ Hafan’s Family Support Service is the only ongoing free support service that is available to these families and children in Newport.
