AFK - Working With Disability AFK Mobility Equipment Service
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Disabled children and young people face huge inequalities to accessing appropriate equipment. We fund specialist mobility equipment nationally for disabled children and young people from birth to their 26th birthday. The equipment we fund is recommended by, but unavailable from, the NHS. This includes powered, manual and sports wheelchairs, specialist trikes and buggies, power assists, car seats, and walkers. Uniquely, we cover all repair and maintenance costs for equipment provided.

Project Outcome Targets

We will listen to the needs of our service users in order to provide the right item of equipment

We will try to limit the wait for equipment

We will fund maintenance and repair costs for equipment we provide

Project Activities

  • We will advocate to secure the NHS wheelchair prescription or voucher applicants are entitled to

  • We will apply to other mobility equipment charities, trusts and businesses to joint fund equipment

  • We have been recognised for providing a simple application process with support to complete.

  • We keep in touch with families so that they are informed of wait, order, delivery times
