PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A half marathon event will be held in Newport in March 2026 attracting 2,000+ runners and a similar number of spectators into the city. As well as being a valuable fundraising event for the hospice, it also brings visitors to Newport and encourages positive health and well-being choices for all the runners partaking in a training plan to achieve the run on the day.

Project Outcome Targets

Engage participants with a training programme to help them achieve their running potential

Reach out to communities who may not have considered running a half marathon

Offer additional support to those in under served communities

Project Activities

  • Social media plan to engage directly with individual runners offering support at every stage

  • Engage with the local communities who will be affected on the day

  • Offer volunteering opportunities on the day for anyone wishing to be involved

  • Liaise with local media, e.g. south Wales argus throughout the build up to event day
