Hedges provide food and shelter to a range of insects, birds and mammal as well as reducing soil erosion and protecting plants from wind and flooding, helping increase biodiversity.
Hedges provide habitats for a range of wildlife and offer nature corridors enabling animals to move about the countryside freely.
This project will bring people together to take action on the climate crisis. It will provide flood defences and other benefits to local communities and farmers and give both urban and rural communities opportunities to access green space.
Volunteers to plant hedges and engage with nature.
We'll work with at least 15 farms around the UK.
We will run 15 community hedgerow planting events (5 in year 1, 10 in year 2) at farms around the UK. We will work with farms close to urban areas to give both urban and rural communities access to green space and nature while building links between communities. The hedges planted will result in greater carbon drawdown to help tackle the climate crisis, increased habitats for nature and benefits for the local area such as protection from flooding.
We will recruit volunteers to tree planting events.
