Brightside Brightside Connect - Peninsular – Plymouth, Truro and Exeter
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Brightside Connect supports disadvantaged 16-18 year-olds, who are most at risk of becoming NEET, focusing on schools in social mobility cold spots, such as remote rural and coastal areas, and former industrial areas. We'll connect these young people, from two schools in Plymouth, with inspirational role models, to support them to make more confident and informed decisions about their future. With their mentor's support, they’ll develop skills and confidence, and understand more about their next steps making them more likely to progress into positive career or education outcomes.

Project Outcome Targets

Increased pathways knowledge: young people know the options available and different career pathways

Increased self-knowledge: young people are more aware of future goals, and understand their own skills and strengths

Project Activities

  • 1:1 mentoring with structured text conversations focused on next steps in careers and education

  • Video calls, to ask questions, develop skills and understand next steps

  • Attending webinars delivered by employers, to provide advice and guidance

  • Completing activities to get young people to explore more options, develop skills, and boost confidence

  • Building networks with others on the pathway to their future career, creating supportive networks for those without one
