PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Community Outreach Programme combines two complementary initiatives designed to increase tennis participation across Newport. It includes a Primary Schools Outreach Programme, and a Community Tennis Programme based in local parks. Together, these projects aim to introduce tennis to children aged 5–11 and engage wider community members by delivering accessible, inclusive tennis coaching in schools and public spaces.

Project Outcome Targets

Introduce tennis to primary school children, promoting healthy activity & skill development.

Provide free sessions in Newport parks to increase community participation.

Break down barriers to participation by utilising mobile coaching model away from core facilities.

Project Activities

  • Delivery of tennis sessions aimed at increasing participation in racquet sports.

  • Increase the opportunities for children and families to access park based tennis

  • Increase the knowledge and skills of school based staff through teacher training workshops

  • Creation of trained volunteer base for community activator provision

  • Increase access to Tennis by reducing barriers to transport and venue locality.
