Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

    Children aged 5–11 and engage wider community members by delivering accessible, inclusive cycling coaching in schools and public spaces. Wider family engagement also to be undertaken creating opprtunties for adult engagement.

  • Number of beneficiaries - 300

    Part 1: Safety, Skills and Fun: 30 children per 10 schools

  • Number of beneficiaries - 150

    Track Cycling programme: 10 children per 15 sessions

  • Number of beneficiaries - 100

    Learn to Ride: 10-12 children per 10 schools

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Cycling Team proposes a three-part youth engagement programme aimed at increasing access to cycling for school aged children across Newport. The project seeks funding to deliver school-based cycling activities and dedicated Velodrome track sessions, developing skills, confidence, and long-term interest in physical activity. This initiative will enhance young people's health, promote cycling as a sport and sustainable transport option, and make use of Newport’s World class cycling venue

Project Outcome Targets

Increase cycling confidence and safety awareness among school children

Identify and nurture potential talent for future sporting pathways

Create equal opportunities for all children to access cycle training, regardless of background.

Project Activities

  • Deliver on-site cycling workshop sessions that are fun, engaging and develop skills to ride safer.

  • Deliver safe cycling education and practical opportunities for school pupils

  • Delivery of structured track cycling sessions at the Velodrome follwoing school/ community sessions

  • Increased number of children cycling or travelling activily to school.
