This programme will be co-created with racially and ethnically diverse communities, including Black Caribbean, Chinese, Sudanese, and Hindu groups.
The project will include events and activities that reflect religious festivals (e.g. Diwali), and will affirm and celebrate the identities of faith-based communities.
Arts-based engagement will help create safe, creative spaces for dialogue between different cultural groups. This helps build mutual understanding, reduce prejudice, and strengthen community cohesion.
The programme supports marginalised groups including refugees, low-income families, ethnically diverse communities, and young LGBTQ+ people.
The focus of this is on reaching and supporting new groups.
The Riverfront Theatre seeks funding to launch a new, inclusive cultural programme co-created with local communities. Building on annual events like Black History 365, International Women’s Day and Lunar New Year, we’ll collaborate with Sudanese, Polish, Chinese, Hindu, and LGBTQ+ communities in Newport to develop year-round participatory arts and launch new celebration events, fostering shared ownership and create a vibrant cultural hub in Newport.
