Duffryn Youth Intervention & Support Project
Newport Live is a highly regarded, locally trusted VCSE, with a strong track record of successfully engaging children, young people, and families living in poverty; using sport / activities as the hook. We have proven experience of demonstrating impact, managing grant funding, and collaborative working (recognising existing Council teams, their support and value, and that of local groups and 3rd sector org's). We will provide additional staff and resource into Duffryn, using local, relatable workers with lived experience, to provide youth engagement activity, mentoring, wellbeing support, & informal education - leading to training, volunteering, & qual's with pathways to employment.
Young People aged 8-18 years Girls - engagement, social capital, mentoring, vol/train/qual's Boys / Girls - engage through sport/activities Open access & Targeted support Bespoke YP led engagement, informal education, confidence, ASB interventions
Duffryn benefits from increased opportunity for young people, through positive activity engagements, youth intervention, informal education, citizenship / social capital, volunteering/training, confidence & targeted behaviour interventions
We will work closely with 3rd sector, Duffryn Community Link, Friends of John Frost, and other groups. We will support young people to be 'better connected' and aware of opportunities to volunteer, gain skills and get experience.
An aspect of the project focuses on 'engagement' linked youth unemployment (Year 10/11, & post 16 mentees) with confidence, mentoring, volunteering, training, & destinations plans in partnership (e.g. School, Careers Wales, NYA, NCC services).
Duffryn is an underserved community, we have a strong record of engaging people living in poverty, especially YP, & understand their needs. YP specifically have a lack of opportunity, hope, and aren't as connected or supported as they should be.
Through targeted support with identified young people from partners - we will support young people who are marginalised / vulnerable / disproportionate (e.g. CLA, YJS, neuro-diverse, girls & vulnerable to exploitation, Dom V, and youth violence).
Primarily - 160 individual YP will benefit
Primarily - Over 2000 contacts / attendances
Secondarily - 20 young people volunteer/gain work experience
Secondarily - 40 young people informally educated
Secondarily - Over 20 qualifications gained
