Newport Live Active Duffryn Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Newport Live is a highly regarded, locally trusted VCSE, with a strong track record of successfully engaging children, young people, and families living in poverty. We have proven experience of demonstrating impact, managing grant funding, and collaborative working with schools, local groups, sports clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Council teams, and 3rd sector org's). We will map out sport and activity latent demand in Duffryn, including what children, young people and adults want and need more of, what local sports clubs and activity groups provide, and where there are gaps we will kickstart new opportunities, and link these sustainably to local clubs and schools.

    More children and young people regularly active in Duffryn, more opportunities to be mentally and physically active through sports. Working with local schools to create interest through festivals, after-school coaching, and school to club links.

  • People with Disabilities

    More children and young people regularly active in Duffryn, more opportunities to be mentally and physically active through sports. Working with local schools, disabled childrens team, and with local inclusive clubs.

  • Adults

    Through working with schools and local sports clubs and groups - adult volunteers, coaches, club administrators, and school staff will be supported with training, guidance, governance and kickstart support to enable sustainable sports opportunities.

Project Outcome Targets

Using latent demand create interest amongst children and young people in identified sport in Duffryn

Support & kickstart local schools in creating the demand / interest in sports, connection to clubs

Support local clubs to create more opportunities/ages, develop volunteers, be more accessible &open

Project Activities

  • Mapping exercise with schools, clubs, Council, NGBs to identify interest, gaps, demand - create plan

  • Promote opportunities and kickstart where needed in schools, to generate the demand for local clubs

  • Support local clubs with capacity, training, funding, coach development, volunteer development

  • Support local adults, teachers, parents, and club volunteers to be trained to support demand

  • Promote clubs and new activities in Duffryn to be better connected to Council, Sport Wales, NGBs
