Severn Area Rescue Association SARA Newport SARA14 Boat Refurbishment

Beneficiaries

  • The General Public / Mankind

The inshore boat is tasked by HMCG and Gwent Police and fire to respond to water based incidents on the river Usk and Severn. In the last 12 months we have recovered many casualties from the river, rescued stranded families from boats in distress.

  • Marginalised or vulnerable groups

Many of our taskings involve the security of at risk individuals who are missing or who are actively undertaking to take their own lives. We support Gwent Police on a regular basis to provide qualified water search and rescue resources to boost them.

  • Community

We are a local charity whose support activities remain of limited local awareness and being able to demonstrate public funding support will help raise awareness of local challenges for residents who we support

  • Reach of your work

Individuals, their families and stretched emergency services

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our inshore lifeboat kindly donated 10 years ago by the family of Maureen Easton and named after her, needs a full refurbishment in 2026, to enable the station to be able to continue to provide ongoing search and rescue service support to local Coastguard, Fire and Police services. Newport station was the busiest SARA station in 2024 responding to 50 callouts. We are entirely self funded, with a crew of 15 covering all disciplines including funding raising for ongoing expenses and capex funds.
