Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

    Primary school children aged 7-9 who participate in our programme to find a sport they love, creating healthier, more active lives. Secondary school children aged 14-15 who gain a leadership qualification through our Young Leader training programme.

    200 primary school children and 20 Young Leaders.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

4 local primary schools (200 children). 1 local secondary school (20 Young Leaders, training provided). 1 Team Spirit Workshop before the festival. 1 multi-sports festival in Newport at a sports/ leisure centre with 6 sports provided by local sports providers. 4 new weekly after-school legacy sports clubs set up at primary schools for at least 10 sessions of free sports coaching. Creating sustainable relationships between schools and local sports providers to help children enjoy being active.

Activity goals

35% of children increase enjoyment of and confidence in sport and 40% improve mental wellbeing.

25% of all children from the festival (including those who were inactive) join sports clubs.

75% of YLs will increase at least 1 employability skill, e.g. confidence, leadership or teamwork.

Activity Actions

  • Team Spirit Workshop at primary schools, promoting confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship and effort.

  • Festival with 6 new sports, competing to win the Team Spirit trophy awarded for trying your best.

  • Legacy club following festival at primary school with chosen sport, delivered by local sports coach.

  • Young Leader Training to improve employability skills, confidence, teamwork and leadership.

  • Collaborating with schools throughout programme, building relationships with local sports providers.
