PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Listening Place provides free, face-to-face, 100% confidential support for people who are feeling suicidal. Support is provided by well trained volunteers and continues for as long as the person needs. Our support focuses on active, compassionate listening and giving people the space and confidence to share their pain. We are the only charity offering this service in London and we now receive referrals from every London Borough and over 100 partner organisations.

Project Outcome Targets

We will contact everyone referred to us within 24 hours and offer a first appointment within a week.

Our fourth support site, in East London, will give us capacity to support 10,000 people a year.

We want those supported to experience significant reductions in how suicidal they feel.

Project Activities

  • Process over 10,000 referrals a year from 180 partner organisations.

  • Volunteers will provide free, face-to-face, ongoing support for people who feel suicidal.

  • Recruitment team to train 360 new volunteers over the next 12 months to meet demand for our support.

  • TLP to give volunteers supervision/support to ensure they have an excellent volunteer experience.

  • TLP and Senior volunteers to review each visitor's progress every six weeks.
