PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Port Songs and stories is a community-based project designed to expand access to music for Newport residents of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Delivered by Operasonic, the initiative will offer free, high-quality music experiences through 2 x six week projects focusing on the homeless community and south asian families. The project supports community wellbeing, celebrates cultural diversity, and builds social cohesion through creative engagement.

Project Outcome Targets

Inspire participants to engage with music, develop skills or just have a go

Promote well-being – use a program of music intervention to improve mental health and confidence

Develop greater community cohesion, using participation to strengthen social connection

Project Activities

  • 6 week project with Homeless participant the finishes with an open sharing and recordings.

  • A songwriting and lullaby projected aimed at isolated members of the south asian community

  • Session Sharings, , including Newport Literary festival and Newport Music Trail

  • Recording and sharing music created in Newport and about Newport

  • Promoting and monitoring the project
