PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Resonate is a music-based community engagement initiative designed to amplify the voices and talents of marginalised groups in Newport, particularly Gypsy, Roma asylum-seeking communities. Through inclusive workshops, cultural exchanges, and collaborative performances, Resonate seeks to promote integration, expression, and empowerment using music as a common language. A key feature of the project is a culture-sharing event, bringing together communities to celebrate and share our Citys heritage.

Project Outcome Targets

To showcase and celebrate the creative voice of the diverse communities in Newport

Build sustainable relationships with marginalised communities their promote their wellbeing

Improve community cohesion and understanding

Project Activities

  • Pilot Gypsy Stars Choir- run workshop in community to enage Roma families

  • Sanctuary songs workshops – in community setting run music groups for familys seeking sanctuary

  • Music and industry workshops for young Roma participants- including music production and video

  • Community Sharing Events – several small-scale sharing events to encourage community cohesion

  • Celebration event – large scale community voice celebration, including music, song, and food!
