PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Sonic Scrap is an inclusive, community-driven junk orchestra project that uses music to engage people of all ages with sustainability and climate justice. Participants will create instruments from recycled and discarded materials, transforming waste into sound and learning about reuse, environmental impact, and creative activism. Through workshops, performances, and public events, Sonic Scrap fosters environmental awareness, promotes behavioural change, and amplifies community voices on climate.

  • Junk Instrument-Making Workshops: free, hands-on workshops in schools, youth clubs, and community.

  • Host a performance in Newport featuring the Sonic Scrap orchestra with Junk instruments

  • Curate a pop-up exhibition of the junk instruments, participant stories, and environmental messages.

  • Document the project with photos and videos to share online, promoting sustainability.
