Startup Sherpas Newport Teen Work Experience (SuperSquad)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A paid work experience consisting of 100 teenagers recruited directly from Newport, aged between 13-18, all working on our digital eDoing platform to answer a Culturally relevant question for Newport City and their local community using our step-by-step methodology. They gain 21st century skills, confidence, and improved employability, generate valuable insights & perspectives for Newport City, and have a direct social impact buy putting money into the local economy, from their pay.

Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

    Newport teenagers will be paid up to £160 for 24hrs of work. Gain essential 21st-century skills not taught in school. Get a level of work experience not available via in-person schemes. Boost their employability, confidence & self-worth.

  • The General Public / Mankind

    Newport City and the local community and culture will benefit from the 100s of insights and ideas generated from the project for ways to boost local culture. By paying the teens directly for their time they will in turn boost the local economy.

  • Number of beneficiaries - 100

    Direct work experience with up to £16,000 paid out to teens.

Through structured work experience young people will gain experience leading to future employment.

Through applying and sharing bank details to be paid, young people will gain greater independence.

Culture in local communities and across Newport improves as a result of fresh ideas from teens.

Project Activities

  • Recruiting diverse teenagers from across Newport by engaging directly with local institutions.

  • Supporting young people through the application process, sharing videos and bank details.

  • Completing 48x 30-minute missions to answer the design question from insights to developed ideas.

  • Collective idea pitching and collaboration between young people to create the best ideas.

  • Showcasing the ideas a creativity of young people to inspire others in Newport.
