PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Baxter Project is an award winning, trauma-informed, animal-assisted, early intervention that break down barriers for vulnerable young people. By combining trained practitioners with companion animals, we create safe spaces where young people can build trust, regulate emotions, and re-engage with learning. Our goal is to reduce exclusions, boost wellbeing, and equip children with the resilience and skills they need for brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

Project Activities

  • 1:1 trauma-informed sessions with companion dogs: Building resilience, confidence etc.

  • Outdoor walks: Creating calm, non-threatening spaces that lower defences and open communication.

  • Staff engagement: Equipping schools to embed relational practice and improve whole-school wellbeing

  • Community connection Strengthening school and community ties, foster inclusion and resilience

  • Trusted relationships: Consistency builds the trust needed for lasting positive change
