ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Recycle to Read brings together cross-sector stakeholders to develop a new, sustainable infrastructure for recycling toys, unlocking considerable social, economic, and environmental benefits for the UK. The programme combines environmental education with consumer action, to empower young people to choose a more sustainable future. In return for reusing and recycling toys and tech, schools and communities are rewarded with books and reading resources

Activity goals

Building a new infrastructure to recycle plastic toys in the UK

To encourage the adoption of more sustainable lifestyle choices and the formation of better habits

To help address the inequality of access and opportunity to books in schools

Activity Actions

  • Schools collecting broken toys and reusable tech and exchanging them for books

  • Direct contact with the schools network on the Pod (17,800 UK schools)

  • Support schools with a high quality, cross-curricular waste education programme

  • Provide tools that make citizen recycling easier

  • Develop a new collection and processing infrastructure for plastic toys + small electricals
