Valleys To Coast: Garw Valley Youth Sports Equipment Scheme
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project directly addresses local youth deprivation by supplying essential sports equipment—including football boots, training balls, team bibs, and bats—to children living on our Garw Valley estates. By lowering the financial barrier to play, we encourage physical well-being, reduce anti-social behavior, and bring communities together. Items will be distributed via localised community pop-ups, estate activity days, and youth focus groups.

    Low-income children and teenagers aged 5–16 living across social housing estates in the Garw Valley. Many face financial barriers to joining mainstream sports teams due to the high upfront cost of necessary kits, boots, and personal equipment.

Project Outcome Targets

Equip 80+ low-income Garw Valley youth with free sports footwear to completely remove financial barriers to play.

Deploy 10 shared multi-sport kit bags across estates to increase daily physical activity levels for 200+ youth.

Reduce local anti-social behavior complaints by providing safe, structured, and constructive estate play assets.

Project Activities

  • Review tenant registries and accept local family referrals to identify children most in need of sports kit.

  • Host community equipment pop-ups and distribution days directly on Garw Valley social housing estates.

  • Purchase safety-checked footwear, multi-sport balls, training bibs, and secure weather-proof lockers.

  • Set up 4 permanent outdoor community lockers on target estates for 24/7 access to shared sporting assets.

  • Partner with V2C neighborhood officers to host weekend matches and structured estate play days.
