AfriCarnival: Rooted and Rising
Rooted & Rising will help young black men build confidence, connect with role models, and grow as leaders. AfriCarnival will bring the whole community together to celebrate culture and empower the young people in our community.
This project will benefit the black community, particularly young black men, by celebrating our West African heritage, providing mentorship, and creating spaces for growth, connection, and leadership.
Adults in the community will benefit by engaging as mentors, sharing their experiences, and strengthening community bonds through participation in workshops, the panel discussion, and AfriCarnival. They will also gain a sense of pride and connection.
The general public will benefit by experiencing and celebrating West African culture, fostering greater understanding, unity, and appreciation for diversity in the community.
Other charities and voluntary bodies will benefit by collaborating, expanding their networks, and gaining exposure while supporting youth empowerment and cultural celebration in the community.
The community will benefit by coming together to celebrate culture, strengthen connections, empower young people, and create lasting opportunities for growth and unity.
The elderly in our community will benefit by being celebrated for their wisdom and experiences, having opportunities to connect with younger generations, and taking part in cultural celebrations that honor their heritage.
This project will benefit these groups, including young black men, low-income families, refugees and asylum seekers, and elderly community members, by providing mentorship, fostering inclusion, and pride and belonging in the community.
This project will reach all Newport residents.
Through two powerful workshops, a panel talk, and a relaxed networking session, this project uplifts young Black men by connecting them with inspiring role models and creating space to grow in confidence, leadership, and identity. At the heart of it all is AfriCarnival — a joyful celebration of West African culture, food, music, and community. Together, Rooted & Rising and AfriCarnival are about pride, connection, and creating something powerful for now and for the future.
