Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

    The events will be aimed at children and teenagers. The focus will be fun and offering people an introduction to sports or skills they may not normally encounter or experience. We will aim to make sure the events are free or affordable to participate

  • Elderly / Old People

    The plan with the funding would be to extend sport in the park to older people by working in partnership with local elderly charities and organising group suitable exercise sessions in and around the park throughout the summer months and autumn

  • Number of beneficiaries - 1000

    We aim to attract as many young people as we can

  • Number of beneficiaries - 100

    We aim to organise light exercise sessions for elderly folk

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

We are hoping to run a number of Sport in the Park events in Beechwood Park in Newport this summer. We are planning three events: Sport in the Park - A day long event of multiple sports & fun games working in partnership with Newport Live Sports Day - A traditional sports day event for children & young teenagers including fun races, obstacle courses, mixed aged and relays Sport Taster Sessions - A day of taster sessions of sports around the park including tennis, golf, athletics, rugby

Activity goals

Engage young people with the East of Newport to visit Beechwood Park to participate in fun events

Introduce new skills and opportunities to young people through fun sport sessions and activities

Reduce ASB within area by setting up regular sports sessions and community clubs in Newport East

  • Sport in the Park - A day long event of various sport games and events involving qualified coaches

  • Sports Day - A day long traditional sports day with the emphasis on fun and challenging races

  • Taster day for various sports around the park including traditional sports and emerging sports

  • Ongoing training and group sessions throughout the summer holidays during the days & early evenings

  • Exercise and sports sessions aimed at adults especially older people
