Our History

  • MediCinema has supported the mental health and wellbeing of hospitalised patients, their families, and carers since 1999 providing over 250,000 free transformative shared cinema experiences to those of all ages. We have built and currently operate six MediCinema sites in major hospitals and places of care in London, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Newport.

Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

Up to 3 times a week, 52 weeks a year, we hold screenings for children and young people. Often attending with family, these screenings enable them to take a break from the intensity of the wards, explore their imagination and create positive memories

  • The General Public / Mankind

MediCinema facilities are purposely built within the walls of the NHS to ensure that there are no economic barriers to access. Any member of the general public who is hospitalised at a hospital site with a MediCinema facility is welcome to visit.

  • Elderly / Old People

For elderly and older patients, MediCinema provides an opportunity to connect with fellow patients, volunteers, and nurses, outside of discussing their condition. This reduces feelings of social isolation and loneliness, improving quality of life.

  • Adults

Up to 3 times a week, 52 weeks a year, we hold screenings for adults. Providing respite from the stress of the wards, adult patients find that the MediCinema experience reduces their feelings of anxiety, isolation, and loneliness.

Our Vision for a better future

  • Our Vision is for as many NHS patients, families, and carers as possible to access the magic of film whilst in hospital, and benefit from the anxiety and stress reducing qualities the shared cinema experience brings. Focusing on supporting areas of high deprivation and economic inequality, our aim is to build new MediCinema sites across the UK.

Our goals to make a difference

  • Reduce the anxiety, stress, loneliness, and social isolation experienced by hospitalised patients, their families, and carers through shared cinema experiences.

  • The wellbeing of NHS patients, their families, and carers is measurably improved, leading to increased emotional resilience, and capacity to cope.

  • NHS hospital environments, along with patient experiences are improved through the provision of our commercial-quality, purpose built MediCinema facilities.

  • To continue expanding our impact within our existing hospital sites with a regular offering of outpatient support group, and NHS staff wellbeing screenings.

  • To expand our reach by building new MediCinema sites in areas of the UK which do not have access our to service. Focussing on areas of high deprivation.
