  • Elderly
  • Health & wellbeing

Our History

  • Founded in 2000 by theatre director Caroline Smith, InterAct takes professional actors into hospitals and stroke clubs to stimulate memory, language and alleviate depression. We work in 19 hospitals and 35 stroke clubs nationally. We've also developed community projects to encourage the creativity of stroke survivors facilitated by actors.

Areas of Operation

  • England: Nationwide

Beneficiaries

  • Elderly / Old People

Help alleviate the social isolation felt by so many of the elderly via virtual interactive reading sessions with professional actors.

  • People with Disabilities

Stroke survivors or other socially isolated people who would benefit from working with professional actors to alleviate depression, loneliness and stimulate their creativity and confidence.

Our Vision for a better future

  • We wish to expand our service to more hospitals nationally and continue to develop our virtual reading service using technology such as Zoom and the good old fashioned telephone. We want to continue encouraging groups to develop their own creative projects using our professional actors.

Our goals to make a difference

  • Stimulate memory, language and alleviate depression for stroke survivors in hospitals.

  • To work in conjunction with occupational and speech therapists to give stroke survivors full rehab.

  • To further develop live interactive virtual readings directly into peoples homes using Zoom .

  • Develop community projects with stroke survivors to explore their own creativity.

  • Continue to expand our work to areas such as Belfast, Liverpool, Cornwall, Essex.
