Our History

  • Starting in 2006, Shine was originally designed to promote self-esteem and confidence as a preventative for teen pregnancy. The last 13 years has seen The Shine Project develop its service into a comprehensive early intervention course promoting physical and mental health whilst retaining its focus on young women.

    We deliver 2 courses for young people in small groups of up to 12 students. The courses are designed to support their physical and mental health and are designed as an early intervention approach to prevent mental health from deteriorating.

    Our Shine Course is desiged to support young teenagers that identify as female

    Our Thrive Initiative is designed to support those young teenagers who identify as male.

Our Vision for a better future

  • The Shine Project has a vital role to play in ensuring that every girl aged 11-14 is able to look after their physical and mental health. By participating in a Shine course we will give girls the tools to build confidence and happiness to lead a life free from anxiety and low self esteem

Our goals to make a difference

  • Students informed about the value of themselves and others and increase their levels of confidence

  • Improved knowledge around eating disorders and healthy eating practices

  • Recognition of their own identity and personal skills and talents

  • Reduction of loneliness

  • Increased knowledge on emotional resilience and the management of strong emotions
