Our History

  • Formerly Caldicot Gymnastics Club, Wye Gymnastics rebranded in 2009, moved to a full-time HQ in 2011 and merged with Galaxy Cheerleaders in 2017. The organisation registered as a charity in 2018. Offering gymnastics, cheerleading and related activities for all ages while promoting wellbeing in our community

Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

    Providing child centred, coach led programmes to help children to enjoy actively using their bodies. Developing character, physical stamina and learning to encourage and help others, creating well rounded individuals with good community spirit

  • Elderly / Old People

    Love to Move is specially designed to get older people moving and functioning better. The programme achieves this by carefully integrating the use of gymnastic foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities.

  • People with Disabilities

    Our Love to Move Programme is also a dementia friendly seated gymnastics programme which is transforming the lives of people living with dementia. Improving cognitive function, coordination and the ability to carry out activities independently.

  • People Of A Particular Ethnic Or Racial Origin

    Understanding and appreciating cultural differences allows us to provide specific sessions which promote diversity, inclusion and belonging so that individuals are able to participate, feel respected and valued.

Our Vision for a better future

  • WGGC wish to continue to promote wellbeing in our community through our passion for gymnastics and cheerleading. Increasing our delivery to impact more people with a focus on areas of deprivation, ethnically diverse communities and the 60+ age group.

Our goals to make a difference

  • Provide all those who wish to participate the opportunity to do so regardless of financial constraints by offering bursaries to relieve financial strain.

  • Build capacity and grow the demand for gymnastics within Newport, particularly in the Pill area and introduce sessions for ethnically diverse communities

  • Introduce new initiatives within Newport to impact more people from a more diverse demographic to include Love to Move sessions for the 60+ age group.

  • Provide opportunities for those who participate to progress to the best of their ability offering competition programmes and pathways in all disciplines.

  • Develop people through all aspects of the organisation by providing CPD opportunities for all from formal sporting qualifications and non sport related courses.
