Our History

  • Bethany Christian Trust was founded in 1983 as a grassroots response to homelessness in Leith, providing accommodation and addiction recovery for local men. Since then, it has expanded to serve men and women throughout Scotland who are homeless or at risk of it, addressing both the causes and consequences of homelessness.

Beneficiaries

  • Adults

We help predominantly adults who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness through holistic support, from crisis intervention to ongoing care.

  • The General Public / Mankind

The whole community benefits when people are set free from homelessness.

  • Children / Young People

We have projects that help children in vulnerable situations through therapeutic befriending services in schools.

Our Vision for a better future

  • To provide, as an expression of Christian faith in practice, for the relief of the needs of the homeless and persons in necessitous circumstances in furtherance whereof the Company may pursue as a holistic response all manner of charitable activity, normally, but not necessarily exclusively, associated with such object.

Our goals to make a difference

  • To meet the immediate needs of rough sleepers through emergency accommodation and access to services

  • To provide long-term housing solutions for the homeless and support to help them sustain tenancies.

  • To build self-supporting communities that prevent homelessness from occurring in the first instance.

  • To provide robust, tailor-made addiction recovery courses with lifelong results.

  • To partner with local organisations and councils to reduce the number of homeless applications.
