Wheely Tots has been running Your Bike Project in Tottenham for 18 months with good results. We are seeking funding to expand the project to a new location to work with more young people. Your Bike Project focuses on young people aged 11-18 years and offers positive activities based around bikes and cycling.
In 2022, we were recognised as the anchor organisation in Broadwater Farm by Haringey Council and established the Moselle Community Project as a vital community asset, expanding and enhancing our existing programme. The project provides weekly, drop-in, community-led activities co-created to respond to attendees' interests and includes a shared healthy meal, board games, knitting, arts & crafts, bushcraft and chair exercise. A team of 12 local volunteers support the programme.
Food on the Farm is based on Broadwater Farm Estate, one of England’s 10% most deprived neighbourhoods (IMD, 2019), and provides a community-led foodbank, a community kitchen providing hot, healthy meals prepared by a local cook with support from 13 regular volunteers, and cooking-on-a-budget workshops. In 2020 we recognised the need for a foodbank to support residents during Covid-19 lockdown; our current offer has grown out of this.
Since 2019, Your Bike Project has reached underserved young people aged 11-18 in and around Broadwater Farm Estate and Northumberland Park, Haringey; both well within the 10% most deprived neighbourhoods in England (IMD, 2019). It supports young people to gain practical skills and understanding for cycling safely on roads including: bike building and maintenance; Bikeability training; route mapping and group bike rides. Activity is during school holidays.
Family Bike Club is a programme of accessible, inclusive cycling activities reaching underserved young people, children and their families in Northumberland Park and Broadwater Farm in Haringey, both within 10% most deprived English wards. We offer free and flexible opportunities for families to access physical activity, gain skills and get more comfortable with cycling. Our sessions are often oversubscribed.
