Our History

  • Zimbabwe Newport Volunteering Association was formed in 2006 to help migrants to integrate into Newport society and Wales at large using arts and sports activities. The charity which is led by volunteers has picked a number of volunteers awards through our arts and cultural events and sports festivals including our multicultural foodbank project.

    Asylum seekers and refugees, international students, migrant workers, EU citizens, Roma and Traveller communities, Black and Asian communities.

Our Vision for a better future

  • In 2024 the charity will deliver the Zimbabwe Day on the 20th April 2024, then Africa Day on the 26th May and Refuge Week football tournament on the 20th June. Furthermore the charity will run the community allotment which grows foreign crops and vegetables which will contribute to our multiculural food bank. We will run multi sports sessions.

Our goals to make a difference

  • The allotment project will be a social capital for people to grow foreign vegetables and meet new friends while encouraging health eating life style.

  • The sports and physical activities will promote healthier and united communities and promote community cohesion and integration of migrants communities.

  • The cultural events will promote African arts and Welsh heritage through informal education via poet, story telling, singing, drumming and foreign foods.

  • Refuge Week event will celebrate diversity & contribution by refugees to Newport economy while challenging negative stereotypes and create safe place for all.

  • The activities will used to build positive mental health , promote volunteering among ethnic minorities while encourage them to take sport and physical activite
