The scope for sports projects and activities considered for grants is wide, consisting of e.g. sports events, sports club activities, health and wellbeing activities through exercise, using sports to build more united communities and stronger individuals. Grant sizes for each of the three schemes vary from £1,000 - £30,000.

The scope for heritage projects and activities considered for grants is wide, consisting of e.g. heritage projects educating and celebrating the history of Newport and Wales, improving the Welsh language capability in the area, increasing the interest and understanding of various aspects of heritage within the diverse, multicultural population of Newport.

The scope for culture projects and activities considered for grants is wide, consisting of creative arts projects, education and celebration of various aspects of culture, from different eras and locations, enhancing the cultural identity of Newport and its citizens. Grants can be applied for for a combination of materials, events, spaces, equipment, technology, project, salaries, services and running costs of projects. Projects/activities need to benefit the local community either directly or through benefits created by e.g. increased number of visitors and business opportunities.
The general criteria for all grants and their evaluation, is that the interventions, projects and activities proposed are tackling inequality, are accessible and will reach those most affected by the cost of living crisis. They must contribute to the goal of creating equal opportunities for all people in Newport regardless of socio-economic backgrounds, disabilities, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, location and health status. Also, projects, events and activities must remain aware of environmental impact, and consider their waste and CO2 generation within their best abilities and budget considerations.
