Our History

  • CultureMinds UK was founded in April 2023 by Swift Care Services Ltd, a Health and Social Care organisation that recognised the pressing need for culturally sensitive mental health support for African men. This is due to biases and stigma associated with African men being vulnerable and seeking help for mental illness.

Beneficiaries

  • The General Public / Mankind

By raising awareness and providing resources tailored to support African men and other ethnic minorities in Newport and across Wales. We want to help the general public understand and address mental health issues specific to these populations.

  • People Of A Particular Ethnic Or Racial Origin

Through culturally competent therapy sessions, creative activities, workshops, and resources, we aim to provide a safe space for African men and racialised people to share their experiences and seek support to address any mental health concerns

  • Children / Young People

Provide educational workshops and creative dialogue sessions to de-mystify the myths around mental health issues and how to seek support as young Africans in Wales

  • Elderly / Old People

Bridge the gap in engagements for elderly Africans seeking support for mental health issues, provide them with a platform to connect with peers, share their lived experiences, and build a positive outlook around mental health and wellbeing

Our Vision for a better future

  • We are committed to fostering a future where mental health and wellbeing amongst Africans are prioritised and supported through culturally tailored interventions and inclusive practices. We envision a society where individuals from diverse cultures feel understood, valued, and equipped with the tools to navigate the complexities of mental health.

Our goals to make a difference

  • Develop and implement educational programmes aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues for African men in Newport.

  • Improve accessibility and affordability of mental health services for Africans in Wales.

  • Enhance cultural competency among mental health professionals working with ethnic minority communities.

  • Challenge cultural taboos and reduce the stigma associated with vulnerability and seeking help for mental health issues within ethnic minority communities.

  • Empower young people and community leaders to advocate for mental health awareness and seek support within their networks.
