MindSpace: is an ongoing project by CultureMindsUK. It has been established to provide monthly safe spaces for men in Newport to talk about their mental health, and social challenges. This is transforming space for conversations, and knowledge/skills acquisition through: 1. Mental and Social Health live media chat/podcast for men in Newport 2. Free Mental Health Awareness Training programmes for a group of 12 people (including women and young adults). These events will run monthly, for 6 months
A weekly community support session every Saturday for children with additional needs from migrant and vulnerable families in Newport. Through structured play, games, and inclusive activities, we aim to promote social interaction, emotional wellbeing, and parental respite. Delivered in partnership with Swift Care Services, who will provide trained and vetted support workers.
Access to mental health support is a growing challenge in Newport and across Wales. Many people from minority communities face extra barriers when seeking help. From language and cultural differences to a lack of trust in mainstream services. At the same time, mental health services are under pressure, with workforce shortages and a lack of culturally competent practitioners. The Community Mental Health Support Bank (CMHSB) aims to address both issues simultaneously.
Croeso Newport is a community language programme supporting immigrant children in Newport to learn Welsh and integrate confidently into Welsh society. Weekly Saturday classes and daily holiday sessions will provide structured Welsh language learning, cultural activities and community engagement. The programme helps children succeed in school, build confidence and strengthen connection with their local community.
BlueApples is a CultureMindsUK employment -readiness project supporting young people/adults facing barriers to enter or progress into healthcare careers. The project will provide confidence building workshops, career guidance, employability training, employment opportunities, in the healthcare sector, CV/interview support, mentoring, and practical workplace preparation. It will particularly support young people, people from disadvantaged communities, individuals with limited work experience, college and University graduates from under-represented communities, and those needing extra training or encouragement to start or change careers into health and care roles.
