Our History

  • Newport Cricket Club is one of the oldest Cricket Clubs in Wales. Founded in 1834, the Club was based at Rodney Parade for 97 years before an enforced sale of the ground in 1990, saw the club homeless and penniless. The Club relocate to it's current headquarters at Spytty Park, part of the impressive Newport International Sports Village in 1992.

Beneficiaries

  • Children / Young People

Sport helps preserve children's mental and physical wellbeing. Regular physical activity has huge health benefits - improving self-confidence, nurturing positive relationships, fostering social cohesion, not to mention staying fit & healthy

  • People Of A Particular Ethnic Or Racial Origin

Many BAME children have a huge interest in Cricket and positive engagement through Cricket can provide a catalyst for lifestyle change. The social mix of children from the various affluent/disadvantaged communities promotes positive social cohesion.

  • Other Charities or Voluntary Bodies

The Club supports young Afghan Refugees to settle in Newport, with Cricket being used as a vehicle for engagement. The Club works with UASC to support young unaccompanied asylum seeking refugees, who can't speak English and have no family support

Our Vision for a better future

  • Newport Cricket Club is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), situated in the Lliswerry (Newport), with the disadvantaged areas of Pill, Maindee and Ringland nearby. The Club's mission statement is to provide all young children with the opportunity to access high quality Cricket coaching programmes and to support the local community.

Our goals to make a difference

  • The Club has fantastic links with the local BAME communities of Pill & Maindee with 45% of Members coming from BAME backgrounds. Diversity is key to our success

  • Newport Cricket Club is a Community Amateur Sports Club. It is one of Wales premier Cricket Clubs running 4 men's, 1 women's and 11 junior teams (Boys & Girls)

  • The Club has a clear structure and pathway for women & girls to participate in Cricket and is proud to have fully functioning Women & Girls cricket sections.

  • Very little Cricket is played in Newport Schools. The Club aims to develop a Schools programme, with Club coaches going into local Schools to introduce Cricket.

  • Ensure that our cricket club is an integral part of the local community, contributing an invaluable service to all sections of the local community.
