Oct 14 is International E-Waste Day. It's also the day that Microsoft ends support for Windows 10. 240 million devices are set to become obsolete overnight, joining the 100m+ devices already languishing unused in UK offices! Tech-Takeback's Tech Amnesty runs throughout October, providing businesses with a FREE secure collection and certified data erasure service for their unwanted tech. Instead of letting them go to waste, we'll put devices to good use tackling digital exclusion in the UK!
10m people in the UK are considered digitally excluded; affecting access to education, employment and vital support services, increasing isolation and reducing life expectancy. Meanwhile, 200m tech devices languish unused in UK homes and offices. Tech-Takeback aims to support 1,000 people out of digital exclusion by providing bespoke refurbished laptops, internet access and digital skills training to the people who need it most —empowering employment, education, and access to public services.
We aim to divert 26 tonnes of reusable tech from prematurely becoming e-waste, supporting digital inclusion and environmental sustainability. We will do this by: - doorstep business and household collections - pop-up collection events and drop boxes - secure data erasure of all data-bearing devices - repair and refurbishment of reuseable devices - reuse to support digital inclusion - disassembly of unusable devices for parts, resource recovery and responsible recycling - ESE impact measurement
