To use the appeal of the Premier League and Reading FC to support 11-25-year-olds who are marginalised or at risk of not reaching their potential; supporting them as they move through the education system and early adulthood.
The programme began in 2006 and uses the reach and appeal of the Premier League and network of professional football clubs to regularly engage children and young people of all backgrounds and abilities in football, sport and personal development – providing a trusted, positive influence in high-need areas across England and Wales. Using the power of football and appeal of professional football club’s brands Kicks aims to engage young people who may otherwise be difficult to reach.
Reading FC’s Kicks Targeted programme offers a package of mentoring and one-to-one (1:1) support which incorporates offending behaviour sessions, life skills sessions and constructive activities for young people to reengage them into their local communities. It includes specific work identified by both the referrer and the young person, with a holistic and tailored approach to tackling violence displayed by young people.
Young people today face a variety of ever-evolving challenges, with more than ever experiencing mental health issues. Teachers and practitioners in primary schools, secondary schools and the education sector face multiple pressures and each school has differing priorities, including approaches to pastoral care, behaviour management and emotional support. The vision is to use the appeal of Reading FC to support 8-16-year-olds who are marginalised or at risk of not reaching their potential
Reading FC Alternative Provision (RAP) support young people who have been finding it difficult to engage with education, whether that is in mainstream school, a pupil referral unit (PRU) or not in education.
