Girls only after school football programme for girls living in disadvantaged areas of Newport, providing opportunities for improved health and wellbeing, increased skills, confidence and self-esteem. Safe Steps is a new pilot training programme that will support 12 disadvantaged adults in Newport to gain accredited qualifications in food hygiene and customer service, combined with supervised volunteering placements at local community hubs. The project strengthens wellbeing, builds confidence, and creates clear pathways into further training, volunteering, and employment.
Our clubhouse toilet facilities are currently not fit for purpose. Toilet provision is connected to team changing rooms, and as such are unavailable for use during matches and training. This significantly impacts female guests and members of the club. The toilet extension will provide dedicated female and disabled toilet facilities.
We want to support local arts and creative activities in Newport to thrive. We will do this through mapping and promoting all the formal and informal creative opportunities in the county. Working with Tin Shed Theatre, we will host 4 creative workshops at The Place Newport to explore the needs of local creative groups. We will also deliver 4 training sessions for groups. We will create a digital map to provide up-to-date information about ways to improve wellbeing through creative activity.
Caerleon JYFC’s ‘Level the Playing Field’ project will provide free, local winter football training on accessible astroturf pitches, reducing financial and travel barriers for families in hidden pockets of deprivation within our community. By keeping children active, connected, and proud of their community, we’ll promote wellbeing, inclusion, and sustainability, while reducing our carbon footprint and while combatting the cost of living impact for all our families living in and around Caerleon.
Equality and social inclusion are key areas of Newport Cricket Club's mission statement - although boys have easy access to Cricket, for Girls the opportunities are few and far between, as there is very little Cricket played in local Schools. The ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ Cricket Programme will address the gender imbalance giving Girls an equal opportunity to play Cricket, creating a vibrant Girls Cricket section at the Club, giving Girls from across the City the opportunity to play Cricket.
