Outline is an ambitious new project set to further reinvigorate Newport’s live music scene — bringing more gigs, nurturing the city’s creative talent, and building on the success of the Newport Music Trail to create a lasting cultural impact throughout the year. This project is about building the future of music in Newport. Alongside the live events, a year-long programme of workshops and expert-led panels will offer aspiring musicians – of all ages and backgrounds – real industry insight.
The BID will deliver a series of Christmas markets throughout December. This will be in the form of festive cabins in John Frost Square, with traders changing on a regular basis to allow variety and choice. Traders will vary from crafts and gifts to hot food and drink. We anticipate 16 festive cabins on the site.
We deliver the annual Christmas lights switch-on event for Newport city centre. This includes on-stage entertainment, celebrity performers, a fireworks display (though we are investigating a drone display this year), face painting, cartoon costume characters, and fairground rides. Last year's event attracted an additional 12,000 visitors to the city centre compared to an average Saturday.
We will bring an urban beach into John Frost Square in the city centre from August 1 to 31 inclusive. Bringing the beach in for a month will increase footfall and visitor numbers, and will be particularly popular with families during the school summer holidays. Free to use, we think the beach will be useful for poorer families who find holidays and visits to attractions to be out of reach financially.
We’re a community group caring for Duffryn woodlands and a local allotment through regular maintenance, conservation, and community events. We're seeking funding to provide essential training for our volunteers, empowering them with the skills needed to manage and sustain these green spaces, protect local wildlife, and engage more people in environmental stewardship. Your support will help us grow a greener, healthier community
A filmmaking programme empowering Newport residents, especially underrepresented communities, to create up to 20 sixty second films reflecting local identity and Welsh culture. Participants select either flexible weekly sessions or intensive workshops tailored to individual learning preferences. The programme culminates in public screenings and actively partners with The Place to pilot a free monthly Community Cinema Club. An innovative new way of working for Ffilm Cymru and The Place.
