Maindee Festival is the only free annual community arts festival in Newport. This year our theme is Fresh Air and we'll be exploring issues around air pollution in Maindee and across Newport. Our community arts workshops, which will run throughout June in the run up to the event ,will create giant items for our carnival parade like clouds, hot air balloons and kites, while participants learn about the effect of air pollution and what's happening in Newport to address it.
MindSpace: is a project by CultureMindsUK. The project provides ongoing discussions and training on mental health awareness in minority communities for men and women. This is a transforming space for conversations, and knowledge/skills acquisition. MindSpace has hosted MH awareness training sessions in partnership with a recognised trainer, and certificates issued for free. Over 80 persons (men and women) in Newport are expected to be trained in mental health awareness by end of October 2025.
Working with local Schools we will be bringing our budget healthy cooking programme into the community. Every session we will cook healthy nutritious family friendly meals to take home alongside knowledge booklets, store cupboard ingredients and lots of confidence to recreate in their own kitchen.
We run skateboard lessons/workshops 12 forms of skateboard lessons per week for all abilities levels. Covering covering equlity, diversity and inclusion with our outreach work. Lessons are for ages 4 - 55 years. Workshop cover the community at large through community group links. We offer sessions that cater for scooters, rolle skates, bmx and balances bikes. Primary school children in Newport will co-create a *Cân Groeso* (Welcome Song) for Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2027 through workshops led by two local musicians - Dom and Lloyd. The project promotes Welsh language, creativity and community pride. The song will be recorded and a video created alongside the song, celebrating Newport’s young voices and cultural identity.
Through bespoke outreach and specialist support for vulnerable LGBTQ+ people of all ages in Newport, this project aims to reduce barriers to accessing support and other services, improve mental health and wellbeing, increase physical and psychological safety and resilience, and improve engagement with social, economic and civic life. Through raising awareness and providing support to individuals and professionals, we aim to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ and their families.
